A wide variety of hospitality and leisure businesses in Scarborough and along the Yorkshire coast from Spurn Point to Staithes have voted by a large margin against the renewal of the second five year term of the BID (business improvement district).
There has been strong local opposition to paying the 1.5% which has attempted to attract visitors through street art and other events with some businesses refusing to pay, resulting in legal action,
Recent central government funding for the Scarborough Fair project has seen a variety of events planned over the next three years which should hopefully continue to attract visitors .
