Scarborough is beginning to come alive as the 2023 season is about to kick off, traditionally in April.
Visit England are forecasting 35.1 million visits to the UK in 2023, 18% higher than in 2022 and the cost of living crisis is likely to discourage foreign travel and boost staycation levels.
Early signs for the local visitor economy are good as we see the town bouncing back to pre-covid levels assisted by our many tourist attractions now operating at full speed. The Open Air Theatre has a great line-up, Oliver’s Mount are offering a full race programme and the Spa have some big names on the bill.
The accommodation landscape is changing rapidly with the extension to the Premier Inn in the centre of town, a number of larger hotels closed to the public as they house phosphate miners or refugees and many smaller hotel converted to self-catering units. These factors are leading to reports of a high level of advanced bookings.
It’s looking like in 2023 Scarborough is the place to be.
