The Stephen Joseph Theatre (SJT) staged their season launch this afternoon and they have certainly got a lot to be proud of.
The very well-attended event kicked off with a look back at 2023 with huge productions such as “The Comedy of Errors (more or less)”, “The 39 Steps”, “The Blonde Bombshells of 1943” and “Constant Companions”. Audiences were up, there were record ticket sales and a wide programme or community involvement was achieved.
2024 looks like another big year with productions including “Northanger Abbey”, “The Whitby Rebels”, “Brassed Off” and “Show & Tell”, none- other than legend Sir Alan Ayckbourn’s 90th play!
The event was topped off by a fascinating panel discussion about not only the upcoming productions but also how Yorkshire everyone was, with Sir Alan confessing to being a Londoner, only moving to Scarborough in 1958!
This local gem seems to be assured of a rosy future in an uncertain world.
