The proposal to turn a semi-derelict shelter at the town end of Marine Drive into a Sea Watching Station have been approved by North Yorkshire Council.

In addition to housing three telescopes there will be a decorative mosaic floor installation which will recognise the huge variety of sea creatures and the area’s Roman past.

Yorkshire Wildlife have been working with Sea Watch through the Wild Eye project to increase public awareness of the sea and this will form an important part.
