Scarborough to Celebrate 400 Years

It was brought to the attention of an Independent Scarborough Councillor that 2026 will be the 400th anniversary of the town…by a stamp collector!

A committee has been established to plan celebrations for this historic milestone and a key focus is exploring what could be done to the historic Spa Pump House to leave a lasting legacy of the event.

A request by Cllr May to North Yorkshire Council for £10,500 to explore options for the project was successful and is intended to be the focus of the celebrations.

In addition to this ambitious plan the Scarborough 400 steering group are working on many other possible events ranging from public art to heritage and arts trails.

This comes at a time tourism numbers are down across the UK, including Scarborough, so could promise a welcome increase in visitor numbers.
