In April last year North Yorkshire County Council increased its responsibilities as it became North Yorkshire Council (NYC) and, in the process, abolished Scarborough Borough Council.
Smaller towns like Whitby had a town council in place but not so in Scarborough and one has yet to be established, promised for next year. The new council will take over some of the responsibilities of NYC and elect local councillors.
It has been revealed this new authority will have a budget of £384,000 which could cost every resident an additional £28 per annum, which is bound to receive mixed responses.
