Over the past couple of years a number of Scarborough hotels had closed their doors to accommodate workers at the Woodsmith Mine near Whitby.
Due to work at the mine drastically slowing down these hotels are gradually opening their doors to the public again, which they had not expected to happen so soon. Having turned away their regular guests, added to the the cost of living crisis and poorer weather, it is expected some will be sold, the first of which has happened.
It remains to be seen whether they remain as hotels or are redeveloped as apartments given the over supply of hotel rooms since Premier Inns not only added a second hotel on the North Bay but hugely expanded their original building in town.
Turbulent times ahead for the hotel market in Scarborough.
