As part of the transformation taking place at the Brunswick Centre it has been announced by owners Scarborough Group International (SGI) that the building will be renamed “Square One” or “SQ1” along with a new logo.
The new name signifies the building moving from shopping to leisure use as it will give the town a major new focal point. Since opening in 1990 the Brunswick Centre has been of huge importance to Scarborough but the loss of Debenhams and no potential replacement tenant forced a rethink. The changing face of the high street is reflected in this move with an Odeon multiplex cinema, bars and food retailers.
