The owner of a water park visitor attraction in North Yorkshire has gone into administration.
The owner of Scarborough’s Alpamare water park is in administration, hot on the heels of announcing their closure for winter due to high running costs.
Benchmark Leisure Ltd owed Scarborough Borough Council £7.8 million in 2022 and it is believed still own a substantial amount from the loan of £9 million made in 2013 towards the development cost of £14 million.
The council owned and run pool it replaced was demolished this year with the sale of the site being considered.
UPDATE – administrators say the site could reopen within months.
