The Conclave takes its name from the historical name for Scarborough. The
Conclave meets at the Masonic Hall, 14 St Nicholas Cliff, Scarborough on
the 5th Wednesday of each month, whenever occurring, except December.
Installation
meetings are held May, June or July as appropriate. The
required qualification for membership of Red Cross of Constantine is that
of being a Royal Arch Mason. Candidates,
after Installation, are referred to as Worthy Knight Companions. The
Degrees of the Order are: Knights
of the Red Cross of Constantine This
degree relates the well known story of Constantine the Great, the Roman
Emperor who was miraculously converted to the Christian faith. All
regular business of the Conclave is conducted in the degree of the Red
Cross of Constantine. The
Appendant Orders are conferred at a special meeting for that purpose and
are Knights
of the Holy Sepulchre which refers to discovery of the true Cross
by St Helena. It is concerned with the three days which intervened
between the Crucifixion and the Resurrection. This Order of Chivalry is
said to have been instituted by the mother of Constantine, to maintain a
guard at the Holy Place. The
second of the Appendant degrees which are always conferred together and
is founded upon a tradition concerning a remarkable discovery made at the
ruins of the Temple at Jerusalem and the subsequent foundation of the Knights
of St John the Evangelist. There are other conclaves held at Beverley, York, Redcar, Thirsk and Howden in the North and East Yorkshire Division of the Order. |
